From what I understand, Flemeth was after Morrigan's body - she just can't take it by force, hence her daughter's wilfulness means she is in no danger.. I don't really think she has softened; she was just more of an unknown in Origins. The only instance I can think of where Flemeth seems undeniably altered is when Morrigan delivers "I am many things, but I will not be the mother you were to me."
